Get ready, Sheboygan! The hit Broadway musical comedy Mrs. Doubtfire is heading to the Weill Center for two performances on Saturday, November 7 (at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM).
Ahead of opening night, I had the absolute honor of chatting with Alanis Sophia, who stars as the eldest daughter, Lydia, in the touring production. Alanis gave us a sneak peek into what audiences can expect when this beloved, iconic story hits the live stage here in Sheboygan.
LISTEN TO OUR CHAT HERE…
If you grew up loving the classic Robin Williams movie, you already know the heart, laughs, and chaotic charm of the story. But Alanis explains that the stage musical brings something entirely fresh to the table:
“Of course the humor and the outrageous transformation… is so iconic and part of the story, [but] with the live theater, people can expect… getting the energy of the performers, the music, the choreography, and the experience of watching everything unfold right in front of you.”
While Alanis admits she was completely shocked and thrilled to land a principal role on her very first national tour—especially since she grew up loving the film—she brings a genuine, relatable depth to Lydia, a teenager caught right in the messy transition between childhood and independence.
When I asked her about her favorite moments in the show, she highlighted “Easy Peasy,” a hilarious tap number where Doubtfire tries her hand at cooking for the family. It’s high-energy, fun, and a major highlight of the production.
For anyone wondering why they should grab tickets, Alanis puts it best:
- Prepare to Laugh: It is a wildly funny night out that delivers endless comedy.
- Heartfelt Reminders: It’s a wonderful, touching reminder that even when families go through difficult transitions, love never disappears.
What is it really like to tour the country with a massive Broadway cast? According to Actress Alanis Sophia, it takes two huge suitcases full of clothes, a lot of love for a tight-knit “road family,” and the occasional moment of forgetting what day of the week it is!
As for visiting Sheboygan, Alanis is excited to explore local coffee shops and find hidden gems within walking distance of the Weill Center. VERY easy to do!
