Joe Sheehan
On Wednesday, a $1.8 billion deal to fund public education, decrease property taxes, and eliminate taxes on overtime and tips was defeated. The Senate voted 15-18 against, while the Assembly also voted it down.
Sheehan, a Democrat and former Sheboygan Area School District Superintendent, made no secret of his intent to vote for the measure that would have used the surplus funds to invest $600 million into special education and general aid funding for K-12 education, as well as $50 million for the Wisconsin Technical College System.
Upon the measure’s defeat, Sheehan stated, “As you know I will always fight for education funding and special education funding, which is why I voted yes for this bill.”
