If you just raised your hand, congratulations—you have officially reached the age where 1999 feels like it was both yesterday and approximately 400 years ago.
Today’s 6:30 Clock Radio Classic, powered by Pleasant View Realty, takes us all the way back to 1999, when T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli were ruling the airwaves and TLC dropped another unforgettable hit.
“Unpretty” came from their third studio album, FanMail, and became a huge hit—eventually reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not bad for a song whose message was essentially: Hey, maybe stop letting the mirror and everybody else tell you how you’re supposed to look.
And somehow, 27 years later, the song still hits differently.
Back then, we were listening to it on CDs, cassette tapes, boom boxes and radios with approximately 47 buttons we never quite understood. Today, we just tell our phone, “Play TLC,” and it magically does it.
Progress? Absolutely.
Nostalgia? Also absolutely.
So crank it up this morning and take a little musical trip back to 1999 with TLC and “Unpretty.”
Because the 6:30 Clock Radio Classic isn’t just a song…
It’s a reminder that our music collection is getting older, even if we refuse to admit it.
