Beyoncé is 45 today, and honestly, somewhere a birthday cake is probably rehearsing its choreography.
Before she became the global superstar, fashion icon, actress, business mogul and seemingly permanent resident of the Billboard charts, Beyoncé was the powerhouse voice of a little group called Destiny’s Child.
And THAT brings us to today’s 6:30 Clock Radio Classic: “Say My Name.”
Released in 1999 and becoming a massive hit in 2000, “Say My Name” became one of Destiny’s Child’s defining songs—and the group considers it their signature track. It also earned them two Grammy Awards,.
She has sold 118 million records worldwide, became the first artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with each of her first six solo studio albums, and has collected a ridiculous trophy case featuring 28 Grammy Awards, along with mountains of MTV, BET, NAACP Image and Soul Train awards.
She’s also acted in movies including Dreamgirls, The Lion King, The Pink Panther and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
So today, we celebrate 45 years of Beyoncé—and the Destiny’s Child era that started it all.
