Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies ended a frightening road-rage situation last night after directing the driver to lead the chase to them.
Shortly before 11PM Tuesday they got a call reporting the driver of a pickup truck was following them, making gestures at their sedan with a family inside. They’d exited I-41 near Johnson Street and pulled into the Target parking lot with the driver of the pickup exiting and acting erratically. Sheriff’s communicators directed the driver to separate themselves and relocate to the nearby Walmart.
The pickup resumed its pursuit where deputies observed the ongoing situation and attempted to intervene without success and followed both vehicles through the City of Fond du Lac in a chase at speeds up to 60 mph. That ended at the North Peters Avenue Kwik Trip where that store was put into lockdown. Deputies did a high-risk maneuver to stop the truck and the driver was arrested without incident. The 52-year-old Waupaca man behind the wheel was charged with Felony Fleeing and Eluding an Officer; four counts of 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and two counts of Disorderly Conduct.
