Sentiment against AI and data centers continues to grow in Wisconsin according to a recent study.
Marquette Law School poll director Charles Franklin says polling last year showed an even split in people who thought data centers were worth the cost. But he said that by February this year the margin grew to a 70 – 30 split, a ratio repeated in March and with opposition rising among Republicans and independents. Franklin says even people who regularly use AI for work or other reasons feel AI is bad for society.
The results come as a number of communities have passed moratoriums on data center construction. Here in Sheboygan, the Common Council passed a measure on Monday for the city’s plan commission to consider establishing a moratorium on proposed data centers for the next 12 months.
