Singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75.
The legendary Welsh recording artist had been hospitalized in Portugal since undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in May. During her recovery, doctors placed her in a medically induced coma before later reporting that she was improving, though she remained seriously ill.
Tyler was best known for her iconic 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” whose official music video has surpassed one billion views on YouTube. She also scored memorable hits including “Holding Out for a Hero” and “It’s a Heartache.”
In a statement posted to her official social media accounts, her family and team said, “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”
