Local basketball legend Joe Wolf is being honored by having a store named after him. The Kohler native died in 2024 at age 59.
In his honor, Kohler leaders have announced plans for Big Joe’s Fuel & Go, a gas and convenience store on Commerce Lane near the Highway 23 interchange north of the village. Plans call for a community bulletin board, outdoor patio, pet relief area and wash station, and a car wash.
Brand Consultant to Kohler, Nina Kohler, said in a news release that the intent was to renovate the former Q-mart into a true cornerstone of the community once again, providing daily essentials for customers from a place that “effuses warmth, welcome and connection.” She said, “We believe Joe would love the space welcoming every visitor to the village, friends old and new, a place to exchange stories and make one another feel at home.”
Wolf led Kohler High School to state championships in 1980, ‘82 and ‘83. He went on to star at North Carolina and played 11 seasons for seven teams in the NBA. He was working as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Heard before his passing.
