If you had to describe 1997 in one song, you could do a whole lot worse than this one.
“MMMBop” by Hanson arrived like three blond brothers had been launched directly from a suburban garage into the middle of the pop universe. And suddenly, everyone was singing “MMMBop, ba duba dop…” whether they knew what the rest of the song was about or not.
Released in 1997, “MMMBop” became a massive worldwide hit and turned Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson into some of the youngest stars in pop music. It was catchy. It was ridiculously energetic. And, let’s be honest, it was nearly impossible to hear it without immediately getting that chorus stuck in your head.
And here’s the wild part: Hanson never really went away. The brothers are still making music and performing together more than two decades later. Yep — those kids from the “MMMBop” video grew up, kept the band going, and are still out there doing their thing.
So crank up the nostalgia, dust off that imaginary ’90s boombox, and prepare for approximately 3 minutes of pure 1997.
