You know summer is winding down when announcements are released advising that the deer hunting season is only a month away. One of those notices was issued this past week by the City of Manitowoc, which indicates that they’re now accepting applications from bowhunters wishing to harvest whitetails within city limits.
It may surprise many to know that under state law, Wisconsin municipalities can’t enact total bans on bow and arrow or crossbow hunting within their city limits, but it can be prohibited within up to 100 yards of a private building as well as on city-owned or leased property like parks, nature spaces, and municipal land.
Manitowoc’s season is in concert with State of Wisconsin rules, running from September 12th to January 2nd, and all the same regulations apply. Those wishing to hunt within Manitowoc City Limits do need to apply with the city Police Department, either in-person or online through this link.
