A modest motel near Random Lake is getting a not-so-modest grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in support of electric vehicles. The Random Lake Motel, also known as the Wisconsin-Aire Motel on Highway 57, is one of 42 locations that is being awarded a share of a $25 million initiative to build fast, reliable electric vehicle charging stations across Wisconsin.
$627,640 from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program has been obtained for the Random Lake Motel due to efforts by the Wisconsin DOT and the Evers administration to provide an electric vehicle charging station at every 50-mile mark along the state’s key interstates and highways.
The grant will cover about 2/3 of the actual cost of the installation that will eventually provide 4 ports supplying 600 kW each. A nearly identical amount was granted to the Belgium Kwik Trip off I-43 for 4 ports supplying 800 kW per port.
Electric vehicle owners can locate charging stations via Wisconsin’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Charging Station Dashboard.
