The reconstruction of I-43 in Sheboygan County should reach a milestone later this week with the completion of the southbound collector and distributor bridge and its ramps at Highway 23 arriving expected at 5 PM Friday. The southbound complex has been closed since the end of June, while the northbound counterpart which closed last week won’t be done until the last week in September.
Ramp closures for shoulder work are scheduled Thursday night into Friday involving northbound-related traffic. The off-ramp to Highway 28 will be closed from 8-10PM Thursday; the off-ramp to Highway 23 east will be closed from 10 PM Thursday until 2 AM Friday; the on-ramp from 23 west to I-43 north will close from 10PM Thursday until 4 AM Friday, and the off-ramp to Highway 42 will be closed Thursday morning from 2 until 6 AM.
Various lane closures will also be encountered for pavement repair between Pigeon River and Highway 28 overnights, lasting through Thursday, while a continuous single lane of traffic will be maintained between Highway V and 28 Monday through 3 PM Thursday.
———Highway 28 & More Work———
Work to reconstruct Highway 28 is progressing with the replacement of a bridge over the Onion River near Highway N nearing completion. Concrete approach slabs will be laid this week while decking forms are removed. Milling and paving operations should begin this week beginning on the eastern end of the project at Highway A, working its way west, and flagging operations are expected to begin on Tuesday. Motorists are being advised of intermittent traffic delays and alternating traffic flow, and are asked to use caution, follow flagger instructions, and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Motorists can also expect overnight lane closures on Highway 23 between Taylor Drive and Highway & overnights this week between 8 PM and 6 AM.
