Cost-cutting measures needed to “strengthen the long-term future” of the International Hot Rod Association’s powerboat racing program have spared Sheboygan. The organization’s President, Dustin Farthing, said that “This was an extremely difficult decision because we know how much passion, effort, and commitment our racers, teams, sponsors, and fans invest into these series…”. He continued that it was important to “…step back, evaluate everything thoroughly, and build the kind of structure that can support the vision (of the organization) moving forward.”
Sheboygan’s IHRA Offshore Racing Series: Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge and IHRA National Championship is scheduled for August 6-9, a one-day expansion over the original program.
Two other races also survived the cuts: the IHRA F1 Powerboat Series in Alton, Illinois July 17-19, and the IHRA Outlaw Drag Boat Racing Series: Spring Creek Marina World Finals in San Angelo, Texas October 2-4.
