Planning a weekend night out in May? Join the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra to hear arguably the most recognized four notes in classical music: “Da-da-da-dum!” You’ll hear these and more in the majestic Fifth Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, which the SSO will perform in its season finale on Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts.
“Beethoven's 5th symphony is the most famous symphony for a reason,” said Music Director Ernesto Estigarribia. “It's effusive, it's energetic and rebellious, but most of all it conveys overcoming of the ups and downs of life. We all have those fateful curve balls life throws us, and Beethoven's Fifth shows us aspirational triumph over them, the light at the end of dark, that sweet glorious victory."
The program opens with “Into the Wild” by Minnesota-born composer Jacob Bancks, which takes audiences to both rural and urban “wild” spaces, followed by Prokofiev’s dazzling Second Violin Concerto featuring Bella Hristova, acclaimed for her “passionate and powerful performances.” The season finale concludes with Beethoven’s Fifth, which is sure to leave you humming the composer’s iconic melodies on your way home.
For families who heard an excerpt of Beethoven’s Fifth at the SSO family concert in February, or students who heard the SSO during their school field trips in March, this performance is not to be missed. Tickets start at $14. To get pricing and purchase tickets, call The Weill Center Ticket Office at (920)208-3243 or visit in person Tuesday-Friday, Noon – 5 p.m.
