It was written years before it became a hit. 1989, about five years before it was released as the lead single from Cracked Rear View in 1994. It even appeared on one of their independent cassette releases before Atlantic Records signed them.
More than 32 years after it’s release this is still one of my top ten favorite songs. He may have traded in his Blowfish for some boots and a hat a few years ago, but we still know and love him as the original Hootie!
