Summer is over and school begins today for thousands of county residents, and the Sheboygan Police Department is urging caution for drivers navigating streets once again populated with students making their daily commute.
One message shouldn’t need repeating…but we will…that’s to obey flashing red school bus lights with a complete stop until kids have cleared and the lights are out.
There are also speed limits near schools. That’s 15 MPH when passing a schoolhouse when children are either going to or from school, or just playing within the sidewalk around the school.
There’s also a 15 MPH limit when passing an intersection or other location properly marked with a “school crossing” sign whenever any child is present, or a school crossing guard is in the roadway to guide students or place signage…simple rules meant to keep school safe for children and drivers alike.
