Innovator Fellowship is a program which encourages area students to share their passions through a year-long project which benefits the community. Eileen English is a Sheboygan North High School junior partnering with the Sheboygan Youth Symphony, and working with students and teachers to design a musical garden to be installed at Sheboygan’s Vollrath Park.
A children’s storybook is also a part of her project. Each page of the book corresponds to a music “station” at the park. The book follows the children’s story of a young monkey learning about the different elements of music from his friends. There will be five main stations, and each station will include a musical instrument (permanently installed) as well as the page of the storybook which highlights the element the station focuses on.
The Forest and Marina Parks Commission approved the installation, and it will arc off of the playground at Vollrath Park. The instruments will be purchased from a company called Percussion Play, which specializes in outdoor musical installations.
If interested in helping with funding or promotion you can contact Eileen English via her e-mail at 24english521@sasd.net or contact the Sheboygan Youth Symphony. Also, check out the Instagram page here!
Eileen chatted with me on The Point Morning Show about the project.
