After experiencing an extended period of low-level activity, COVID-19 has returned to a “Medium” level in Sheboygan and all surrounding counties.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control indicates that hospitalization rates are largely behind the move up to a “Medium” level as admissions have risen nearly 25% (23.8) in the past week to 10.6 per 100,000 persons. 12 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as the primary reason; there were 10 in last week’s report.
Many other metrics were down, such as total cases per 100,000 dropping by over 17%. At the same time, though, test rates fell – as expected during the holidays – by over 20%, while positivity rates were marginally higher at 10.97%.
At a Medium activity level, the CDC recommends that masks should be worn if you have COVID-19 symptoms or if you or someone in close contact tests positive, and when using public transportation. And you should consider wearing a mask indoors in public if you’re at high risk for severe illness.
