Through Executive Order, Governor Tony Evers has ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff beginning today, Friday, September 9, through sunset on Sunday, September 11, out of respect for the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001. The Governor also issued an Executive Order declaring Sunday as a state Day of Service and Remembrance to encourage all Wisconsinites to commit acts of service and do good in their communities in commemoration of the lives lost.
In issuing the orders, the Governor said that “…we should each take time to remember the nearly 3,000 individuals who were lost in this tragedy and their loved ones who miss them every day, to extend our support to the countless others whose lives were forever changed, and to honor the first responders, emergency personnel, and volunteers who ran toward danger to help their neighbors and save lives on that fateful day.”
He also encouraged Wisconsinites to join in acts of service and community, acts that serve to remind us that “there is still more that unites us than divides us.”
