Providing care to school-aged children when not in the classroom became a critical issue during the pandemic. Now, two area agencies are getting financial help from the State to ensure that they’ll continue providing that care.
The Sheboygan County YMCA of Sheboygan was awarded a total of $876,712.04, while the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sheboygan County in Sheboygan Falls was given $207,852.80. The money will cover programs provided by the agencies both this summer and next and during the upcoming school year.
The awards announced on Thursday by Governor Evers were part of a $50 million “Beyond the Classroom Grant” distribution to 115 out-of-school providers across Wisconsin. The money came from the federal American Rescue Plan Act to support virtual and in-person programming for school-aged children, to help increase enrollment capacity, provide additional learning opportunities, or increase mental health support for those children.
