PLYMOUTH, WI (WHBL) – At one time, Plymouth was where the price of Cheese was set nationwide. In the 1930s it took on the nickname “Cheeseville” and became known as the “Cheese Capital of the World,” – a title not lost on the minds of those who live and work there, especially considering that an estimated 15% of U.S. cheese is still processed and produced in Plymouth facilities.
That title will be officially enshrined on Saturday when the Plymouth Advancement Association dedicates the new Cheese Capital of the World Gateway Arch and newly-decorated railroad trestle that frame the east and west ends of the downtown.
The dedication event, called “From Cheeseville to the Cheese Capital of the World” will feature a ribbon cutting with Plymouth Mayor Donald Pohlman, joined by Plymouth Advancement Association President Lee Gentine at 10 AM on Saturday, and the public is invited to join the celebration.
