A set of accidents in foggy conditions resulted in life-threatening injuries this Thursday morning.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls beginning around 7:35 AM reporting multiple vehicle crashes occurring on Highway 23 in the area of Sunset Road in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Visibility at the time was reported to be less than one-tenth of a mile.
As deputies arrived to the site they determined that at least 9 vehicles were involved in that crash. As the Sheriff began to close the scene down and redirect traffic, another 6-vehicle pileup occurred west of the original scene.
Initial investigation indicated that a single vehicle was attempting to cross Highway 23 at Sunset Road in the dense fog, causing the initial crash. Life-threatening injuries resulted. No report on injuries at the second crash site were provided for now.
The scene is currently an active investigation and will be reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
