Funding from the federal government will send nearly $300,000 towards improvements at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport. US Senator Tammy Baldwin announced the award on Friday as part of the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Grants, a program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The grants, totaling over $38 million statewide, are intended to go towards improvements in runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projucts, terminal upgrades, airport-transit connections, and roadway projects. The share granted to the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport amounts to $294,000.
Upon announcing the award, Senator Baldwin stated that: “Our Wisconsin airports are vital to our economy and way of life, connecting our communities, empowering tourism, and driving our local economies.” She further said that she was thrilled to deliver the funding, as “Aging infrastructure can cause delays, jeopardize passenger safety, and negatively impact our economy….These resources will help our airports across the state increase efficiency, improve safety, and ensure our airports can welcome new passengers for years to come.”
