Historically bad air quality is smothering the Sheboygan area again this morning, but we’re by no means alone. A blob of smoke-laden air that made its way from Canadian wildfires remains over much of the Great Lakes region, setting the stage for another oppressive, even dangerous day.
The DNR’s monitor of particulate pollution reached a peak of 213 in Sheboygan and northern Ozaukee Counties at 7 p.m. on Tuesday…a “Very Unhealthy” situation that had only fallen to an “Unhealthy” 196 by daybreak on Wednesday.
Forecasters have kept an Air Quality Alert in effect for all of southern and south central Wisconsin until noon on Thursday, with hopes that conditions will change by then, but officials stress that this is a “highly dynamic” situation with no guarantee that we’re out-of-the-woods by the weekend…so stay tuned, and be prepared to stay indoors if conditions warrant.
