What’s being described as one of – if not THE largest – Bare Roots Accelerated Growth Systems in Wisconsin will be dedicated in Sheboygan on Friday morning.
The so-called BRAGS system grows saplings into trees ready for transplant in a short amount of time. And according to City Forester Tim Bull, when fully planted, the facility on the former impound lot of the Sheboygan Police Department will accommodate 560 bare-root trees purchased each year going forward for replanting in the fall by City crews. The trees will be acquired and developed at a fraction of the cost to the City compared with normal acquisition.
The first 300 of the trees now planted in the system were made possible by funds from the Alliant Energy Foundation, while the BRAGS system was largely supported by the Sheboygan County Stewardship Fund and the Sheboygan Rotary Club ROOTS collaboration with the City.
