$3.4 million in grants were announced by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services last week to be used by 43 organizations, some in Sheboygan County, to help reduce barriers to vaccine access among disadvantaged or underserved populations.
African Heritage Inc., Community Care, Inc., Hayat Pharmacy, Prevea Health, The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, United WI, United Migrant Opportunity Services, Wellpoint Care Network, and the Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual Assistance Associations have operations in Sheboygan County. They, along with more than a dozen others with a statewide presence, will each be getting anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 to help get vaccinations to those lagging behind other populations in our county.
According to the Wisconsin DHS, Sheboygan County’s American Indian population is 36.6% fully vaccinated, and the Black population is at only 26.5%. By contrast, Hispanics here have a 48.5% full vaccination rate, Whites are at 57.4% and Asians are 64.4% fully vaccinated.
