The changing face of sports in the digital age is now on full display at Lakeshore Technical College, which opened its new state-of-the-art esports arena this past Friday.
The 900-square-foot arena is outfitted with ultramodern lighting, has 11 gaming stations and two gaming consoles, all with hi-tech computers, monitors, headsets, keyboards and mice. The entire facility is available for use without charge to students to play games like League of Legends, Rocket League, Smash Brothers and others. Those who play can do so either just for fun, or can try out to play on LTC’s team which competes in the National Esports Collegiate Conference, or NECC. The conference has more than 100 colleges and university members nationwide.
In opening the facility, LTC President Dr. Paul Carlsen said that the college is excited to open the new arena, and is looking forward to giving the other teams in the conference some “serious competition.”
The first scheduled event is a Smash Brothers tournament on January 5th at LTC. Those interested can visit gotoltc.edu/esports for more information and specific tryout times.
