KENOSHA, WI (WSAU) — Jurors are back in the Kenosha County courtroom for day three of deliberations in the Kyle Rittenhouse homicide trial, while the judge overseeing the case has determined that a national news outlet will not be allowed in the building after accusations that a representative of the group was following the jury away from the courthouse.
Judge Bruce Schroder banned MSNBC from entering the courtroom to cover the proceedings after a person claiming to be from the network was caught following the jury bus as it was leaving the courthouse Wednesday evening. The driver was observed running a red light to keep up with the bus, and when officers pulled them over said he was following instructions from supervisors at the network.
The driver has been cited for the traffic violation and police in Kenosha are investigating the situation. Judge Schroder said the matter is being taken seriously and no one from the outlet will be allowed in for the remainder of the trial.
Rittenhouse is accused of killing two people and injuring a third during a night of unrest following the police killing of Jacob Blake. His defense team maintains the incident was in self-defense, though prosecutors have said Rittenhouse was the instigator and could have run away.
The defense also called for a mistrial again on Wednesday over drone video that was shown to the jury, saying if the would have known a higher-quality video was available they may have changed some of their tactics. Judge Schroder is considering that call and has said that he may rule on it at any time.
