The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and State Patrol are warning residents to avoid using I-43 and Highway 42 near Sheboygan during peak hours over the next three days.
It’s estimated that some 40-50 thousand event attendees – roughly the equivalent of the entire population of the City of Sheboygan – will be going to and from the tournament on those highways. Combined with morning and evening commuter traffic on Friday, and with the usual weekend traffic Saturday and Sunday, slowdowns are expected. Volume could be enough to cause backups on I-43 northbound in the mornings and southbound during the evenings, and on Highway 42 in both directions during peak times. Ryder Cup traffic could start as early as 4 AM.
Area residents are being encouraged to avoid I-43 and Highway 42 during peak hours, and to expect delays and potential backups.
