High volumes of traffic expected for the Ryder Cup Golf Tournament have prompted traffic controls that will reach through most of Sheboygan, and into parts of surrounding counties all week long.
The Wisconsin DOT has put a curfew on oversize, but not overweight vehicles during peak hours of 4 AM to 8 AM this entire week through Sunday, and from 4 PM until 8 PM through Thursday. Those evening hours will extend until 10 PM Friday through Sunday. I-43 will be affected from Manitowoc to Milwaukee, and in Sheboygan County, State Highways 23, 32, 42 and 57 are also included. The full advisory is posted below.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will be controlling traffic near Whistling Straits, and Sergeant Eric Heinz told us that while no roads will be shut down, you can expect some re-routing near the course, and he advised that those living nearby will be able to travel wherever they need to, but because of the high volume of traffic expected, they could get “stuck in the que” of wherever the majority of the traffic ends up. As a result, Heinz said you may consider using some lesser traveled county roads to get around the crunch.
