MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU-WHBL) – Freddy Peralta took a no-hit bid into the 6th inning, only to see it evaporate as the Cincinnati Reds turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead and ultimately a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night at American Family Field.
Jesse Winker broke up the no-hit bid two batters into that 6th after leadoff man Jonathan Inda was hit by a pitch. That led to a three-run homer from Nick Castellanos which knocked Peralta out of the game. Brent Suter was able to finish off the inning with two strikeouts and a groundout.
After that inning, things took a turn for the worse for the Brewers, as Manager Craig Counsell was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. A short time later Christian Yelich was tossed for arguing a call at first base.
Yelich had just bunted for a base hit and was safe at first but took a step towards second base and was tagged out by India. Yelich made it known he didn’t agree with first-base umpire John Libka’s decision, who then sent him for an early shower.
Milwaukee managed to tie the game in the 8th on a two-run homer by Tyrone Taylor. Eugenio Suarez then provided the game-winning run for the Reds off Josh Hader.
Yelich, Avisail Garcia, and Omar Narvaez each finished the game with two hits for Milwaukee.
The two teams will close out their four game series on Sunday afternoon. Pregame coverage on WHBL begins at 12:35.
