Seven Lakeshore Technical College students earned a combination of gold, silver, and bronze awards at the annual Skills USA state-level competition, and four have advanced to the national competition that is underway virtually through the month of June. Students compete against those from other tech colleges around the state and nation by applying skills they’ve learned in trade, industrial, technical and health occupation programs, along with communication and troubleshooting.
Sheila Schetter, LTC’s Skills USA advisor, said that this year has been a challenge for anyone learning high-tech, hands-on skills, and commended the LTC competitors who competed virtually, something she said can be even more difficult than competing in person.
Earning gold awards were: Justin Swigert, Sheboygan, Auto Service Technology; Cade Livermore, Sheboygan, CNC Milling Specialist; and Alex Lemberger, Whitelaw, Auto Refinishing Technology. All will compete nationally.
Earning silver awards were: Johnathan Shields, Manitowoc, Auto Refinishing Technology; and Ryan Wendt, Manitowoc, CNC Turning Specialist.
Earning bronze were: Matt Haefke, Sheboygan, Youth Apprentice, Precision Machining Technology; and Alex Hesselink, Sheboygan, Auto Service Technology. Haefke will compete nationally.
