Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" is the biggest hit of 2012 so far: not only did it top the charts for eight weeks, but it's sold a whopping six million copies.  This is significant because it managed to rack up those sales in just 30 weeks -- a sales speed record.

Yahoo!'s Chart Watch reports that the previous record for fastest climb to six million sales was held by LMFAO 's "Party Rock Anthem," which did it in 48 weeks.  Before that, it was Adele 's "Rolling in the Deep," which reached the six million mark in 54 weeks.

According to Chart Watch, "Somebody That I Used to Know" is the front-runner to win the Grammy for Record of the Year come February.
