Did you see this last night?
I happened to catch it and felt super bad for this lady.
Even the woman that won felt bad.
YouTube Description: WoF 12/19/12: Strict Judging? - On Monday's R2, the contestant was nervous, skipped over the CASE part of LOWERCASE when solving, made the full missolve without it, then quickly repeated it correctly and the judges decided to be lenient and accept it. Personally, I found it too loose, once you say the whole thing wrong I feel like it should be locked in.
Now tonight... we're talking about pronunciation here, and not on any name of a person or anything like PHILBIN and RIPA. Pat's explanation though, maybe they really consider SWIMMIN' slang? Regardless I found it fairly strict.
Nice week, judges. I know you have a difficult job at times but I've never really found much consistency in all the eps I've watched. Monday's wasn't a huge deal, early on and not too much money at stake, but this completely decided the game as R5 was solved by the blue player.
Anyways, enjoy a miscategorized puzzle and the rare no more consonants sound, I guess.
I get that rules are rules, and they're probably clearly stated.
It's just unfortunate that this cost her not only the round, but a trip to the Bonus Round as she came up just a little short.
In hindsight, and I know it would be a pretty special thing to actually happen, but how cool would it be if the other two contestants would have just intentionally guessed a wrong letter to swing it back to her?
I know can say I would do that, but I honestly don't know if in the moment I would. You know? You're trying to win, and we're talking thousands of dollars on the line.
Would be cool to see though.
