IRS Fail

Posted by Ben Olson on

The Treasury Department's inspector general has reported that the IRS doled out more than $5 billion in fraudulent income tax returns last year -- mostly due to their effort to provide refunds quickly rather than properly vetting the claims first. But it seems some of these claims should have had somebody scratching their head. The agency "refunded" $3.3 million to a single address in Lansing, Mich. (supposedly the home of 2,137 different tax filers) and nearly $4 million to three Florida addresses. Refunds were also issued to around 105,000 dead people. (Washington Post)
